-My Chemical Romance "Stay"
We have An Ming
We just got back from Gotcha Day. Sebastian, who we've been calling An Ming, entered the room with three other children, and was led into a room just off the one we were in. We were able to see, take pictures and video of him, still. When they allowed the children to go to there parents, he showed us the photo album we had sent, along with a red car we had also sent him. All through the pape work, he had this polite little smile on his face. We only got one or two real, wide smiles. He said next to nothing, and, obviously, anything he DID say was in Chinese.
A high note is that he refered to my Dad as "Ba ba" (Daddy) right away, and when I asked him where mommy was, he pointed to my mom with out hesitation. We've shown him his backpack, which he really likes. We just got it off him for the first time a moment ago. He's very protective of his things, and cleans up before moving on to another toy. He also didn't take off his coat, or even unzip it. He kept it zipped up tight, with the hood up. Like the backpack, we just got him to take it off.
As I said, he was very calm, very quiet when we got him. An Ming didn't cry, didn't complain, or resist about going to us. He didn't really show any emotion, except that polite little smile. It was like he wwas saying, "I don't know about this, but I'll be a good boy anyway."
When we got to the hotel, he followed Annie wordlessly to our room, and when we got into it, he looked around, and walked around to the couch. My mom tried to take off his backpack, and he finally said something to us. This time the polite little smile was gone, and he broke down into tears. As sad as it was, it was good to see him really express some emotion, and show us how he was feeling. He cried for a while, but after some cookies, and comforting, he stopped.
Right now he's listening to Annie's FP3 player, and, although that little smile is gone, he's alot more comfortable. I think he likes us, but I know he's scrared and confused, too. It breaks my heart to see him like this, but I'm also so glad our little Sebastian is finally here.

Our Jace is from Kunming and also adopted through CHI. The pix just took me back. That black leather sofa is where Jace was when we walked in to get him.
I wish you well with your big boy! Sounds like he is doing well so far. Everyday will bring something new and another layer will be exposed of who he really is.
