Houston: We Have Blogger!!!!
What a joke. We spent the entire afternoon after getting to the Hotel in Kunming trying to get Anonymouse to work,
and, after suscribing to the VIP status, we actually can view and post on the blog!!!! (This is a big step for us)
As I mentioned yesterday, our hotel room in Beijing was 1313. What's ironic, was in every corner of the Hotel (I'm not exaggerating) there were fire extiguishers. Yes, there were even two outside our room. You know, in case a fire were to break out RIGHT THERE, we'd be covered. We realized today, though, that the floor we were on was 13, the room number was 13, we left for China the 13th, Sebastian's birthday is the 13th, and what row were we in on the flight to Kunming? You guessed it, 13. I don't know about you, but I find that a bitt creepy. trust me, if this Hotel had a 13th floor, we'd be on it.
Yesterday was really cool. I know I said that about the day before, but we went to the Forbidden City, Tian An Man Square, and the Temple of Heaven. As for the Forbidden City, we met up with my mom's brother, Matt, and my Aunt Jen, who we didn't know was coming. They also informed us that my Grandma is also watching their dog at our house. Granny, for caring for Ryan, keeper, and Jack the Bulldog, you are now officially my hero.
The Temple was Heaven was beautiful. We stood against the Echo Wall, where, if you stand on one side, and your friends stand on the other side, you can talk to each other. We didn't believe it would work, but when, after calling out to Annie, we heard a quiet little "Mommy?" we all freaked out. It's a really cool place. Especially when, on our way out, we had to go through a corridor outside, where hundreds of locals gather every day to socialize. There were groups singing folk songs, military songs, playing cards, knitting, and all just hanging out. I actually think that was the best part of the day. We got to see how the locals live, what they like to do with others, and what they do when with their friends. It was overall just a fun enviorment, besides the people that would hunt us down trying to make us buy things. "Five for ten dollars!" was a phrase we heard quite alot of.
After the Temple of Heaven, while Lisa and her family (It was great to meet them, we had a blast hanging out in Beijing) went to dinner, we headed out to where my Uncle was staying, and ate dinner there. We were all to tired to eat out, so we ended up just ordering up food from the hotel resturant, and settling in for, "Matt's Movie Night" Let's just say Matt's Movie Night failed, but it was hilarious watching it crumble. First of all, we asked for a chair to be brought up, but it never was, then, while ordering food, we were on and off with the resturant, beacuse we kept asking for things like Fanta and popcorn. (which, for some reason, was interpreted as peppercorn.) Meanwhile, the TV wasn't working, so we had two employees working on it. That didn't get fixed until our food came. When the man came to pick up our cart of plates and food, he asked my Uncle, "How was the food?" Matt's response? "Not good." Without skipping a beat, the man replied, "Thank you." We had to work hard to contain our laughter.
That about sums up our day, we have some pictures of the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven, either in this post, or we'll just post something with only pictures. Only a few more hours until we have Sebastian!!!!!!
